About Westmorland School

Westmorland School is an independent, specialist day school providing high-quality education for boys and girls aged 5-16. The school meets the needs of pupils with a range of needs including autism, speech, language and communication difficulties and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

A big warm welcome to our website

At Westmorland, we have a fantastic, diverse range of pupils who continually amaze us every day.

Our curriculum is tailored to meet each pupil's individual needs. Classes are structured primarily around speech, language, and communication requirements, then further grouped by age and ability. This personalised approach ensures that every pupil receives the support needed to reach their full potential. We call our learning groups ‘provision clusters’, named BEARS at our primary provision in Chorley and BIG CATS on the secondary Wood Campus in Leyland.

Our ethos, "We learn to live together, together we live to learn," reflects our commitment to nurturing lifelong learners who can collaborate and succeed. With high expectations and strong support, we ensure pupils engage, progress, and develop essential decision-making skills.

We warmly invite visitors to experience our welcoming and vibrant community firsthand.
