The Eaves Learning Centre

Our learning centre offer

Our aim is to provide pupils with a range of opportunities so that they can reach their full potential.

Key Stages & education

Pupils in Key Stages 2, 3, 4 and 5 attend The Eaves Learning Centre.

We deliver a ‘24 hour curriculum’ which is structured around developing pupils through building confidence, self-esteem and trust within a supportive learning environment. This specialised curriculum gives pupils access to a range of academic, vocational, therapeutic and leisure activities, and so enabling them to become more confident and successful learners.

Pupils are encouraged to pursue new interests. For example, scuba diving through an accredited qualification is sourced so that the culture of achievement is honoured and rich experiences offered.

Find out what makes our learning centre unique

We provide unique learning opportunities for our pupils to help them engage with learning so that they can develop skills and grow in confidence to become proud members of our learning centre community.

We have cultivated a family-friendly atmosphere through building trusting and meaningful relationships between pupils and staff. Our shared values are embedded in our culture and are made up of courage, kindness, determination, and thoughtfulness, which all combine to raise pupils' ambitions.

We believe practice makes perfect and the Olympic theme, which runs through all aspects of our learning environment, helps to inspire pupils to take risks and step beyond their comfort zone to challenge themselves to be better. Taking inspiration from athletes, pupils can draw parallels and build resilience while adopting a healthy lifestyle that encompasses diet, fitness, and good mental health.

This approach enables pupils to progress socially and emotionally and go on to achieve a range of awards and qualifications. All this results in pupils looking forward to the next chapter of their lives with increased knowledge, experience and skills.

Staff stretch and challenge pupils to encourage them to reach their full potential in a learning environment where resources are plentiful and mimic the work environment. A bespoke curriculum enables them to explore and follow a chosen pathway that includes creative, practical, science, maths, and technology.

This serves to develop their skills and talents for the future by tapping into their interests and building on their strengths.

Our learning environment includes:

• A digital media room
• Art room
• Food technology room
• Science laboratory
• Access to mobile digital photography studio

The Student Council plays an important part in giving the pupils a voice and influence how the learning centre is run. Voted in by their peers, the opportunity allows members to continually reflect on our offer and explore ways to make teaching and learning more meaningful, as well as introduce events to increase awareness of local, regional, national and international causes.

The team also develop their social skills so that they confidently contribute to the wide community by entering conversations with the school’s Senior Leadership Team, where they discuss, negotiate and arrange topics to help improve the teaching and learning experience for everyone.

Teachers and teaching assistants are extremely well equipped in providing appropriate support to meet the needs of our pupils and establish a positive and engaging learning environment. The education staff consists of a stable and experienced team and the professional development of teachers and teaching assistants is supported through regular internal and external training. This ensures extremely effective teaching practices are in place and lesson activities are well-planned to support learning.

The Pastoral Care Team develop excellent links with parents, carers and families, as well as professionals involved with a pupil. They also provide additional support, when required, to help pupils engage in classes.

All this support allows each child, whatever their needs, the opportunity to engage and enjoy their education.

The Pastoral Care Team ensure that all pupils’ well-being is constantly reviewed and developed, and that strong links are made between school and home.
