Artists in residence
Pupils and staff from Westmorland School recently welcomed local artist James Naughton, for an exciting project.
To ensure a successful creative session, James visited the school prior to the day to familiarise himself with the children's needs, enabling him to create a session tailored to their abilities and interests. Head Teacher, Sue Asher expressed her desire for them to work together and create a collaborative piece of artwork to be displayed at the front entrance.
Inspired by L.S Lowry, James helped pupils to create their self-portraits, exploring various techniques and mediums. The result was a collection of portraits that captured the essence of the artists distinctive artistic style.
Pupils were filled with great pride and excitement as they witnessed their work being installed at the front entrance. The display has served as a celebration of their artistic achievements and added a vibrant and personal touch to the school's environment.
The success of this art project has inspired the school to organise future collaborations with local artists, recognising the value of incorporating art into the curriculum and providing more opportunities for pupils to explore their creativity and engage with the local art community.
Great work everyone!
