Richard Wilkins, Quality Assurance Director and Elaine Capstick, Inclusion Manager have been working with the British Institute of Learning Disabilities (BILD) since 2016 to implement Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) within schools and children’s homes across our Group.
Since the initial review, Laura Higgins, BILD Consultant has visited school and homes to assess the progress made by each establishment in implementing PBS.
Laura visited The Grange Children’s Home, Hall Cliffe Primary School, Meadow View Learning Centre, Westmorland School, Cedar House School and Pontville School as part of the assessment and shared with Elaine that she was completely ‘blown away’ by the progress that all the settings have made. During all the visits, Laura commented that they were all an absolute pleasure and gave positive feedback. She also spoke to Elaine about the environments she visited as feeling calm and positive, with spaces available for the children that are environmentally supportive. Overall, Laura even went as far as to say that she has ‘never seen something so impressive’ in terms of the progress that establishments have made since implementing PBS since 2016.
Elaine was also pleased to hear that the staff in the settings were keen to speak to Laura about PBS and she said that the pride PBS Coaches took in showing their work was lovely to see. She witnessed the notable differences in how the staff are interacting with children and young people and saw a clear improvement in the confidence of staff.
In a meeting with Elaine, Laura said that she ‘can’t wait’ to write the feedback report.
I would like to thank the staff teams at the establishment visited by Laura including the Positive behaviour Support Coaches:
Marie Winter, Pastoral Manager- Hall Cliffe Primary School
Paul Henderson, Deputy Pastoral Care Manager- Westmorland School
Liam Curry, Deputy Manager- The Grange Children’s Home
John Boyers, Pastoral Care Manager- Meadow View Learning Centre
Paul Lyons, Deputy Head Teacher- Pontville School
Stewart Hoyle, Pastoral Manager- Pontville School
Andrew Thistlethwaite, Deputy Head of Care- Cedar House School
Without the support of Regional Directors and the senior leadership teams, we wouldn’t have been able to implement this and witness the progress that has benefitted the outcomes for our children and young people. Richard and I are extremely grateful for everyone’s support.
Teamwork really does make the dream work. Well done everyone!
