Pupils race to great futures!
Pupils from Cedar House School recently visited the Thoroughbred Horse Retraining Centre based in Lancashire, as part of the Inspira Link Employability Initiative.
The new initiative provides opportunities to help broaden young people’s horizons, raises their aspirations, challenges stereotyping, and increases their motivation to learn. It also provides young people with a better understanding of different career routes and opportunities and helps them to make better and more informed decisions about their futures.
The visit was aimed at pupils who are interested in studying animal care at college, or who are considering a career in the equine industry. The centre can offer potential work experience opportunities in their shop or with the horses.
During the day, pupils were able to discuss potential jobs working with horses and also spoke to a farrier – a specialist in horses, who spoke to them about careers relating to the animals. The trainers talked to the pupils about a horse called Duke and his racing career and explained how he’ll be looked after for the rest of his life at the centre.
The day gave pupils a great insight into working with horses and finally ended with a question and answer session, and some quality time getting to know the individual horses.
They certainly are racing to great futures! Well done everyone.
