Liverpool players quizzed by Pontville pupils

26 January 2025

For almost two years, Pontville School has been part of the Futures programme, working closely with the Liverpool Football Club Foundation to improve employability skills of pupils. Through the Foundation’s Creative Works Programme, sponsored by Kodansha, the young people have been learning valuable skills through six-week workshops, delivered by Carmel Carey-Sheilds from LFC.

Over time, Carmel has built strong relationships with both the pupils and the Futures Team, so when an exciting opportunity came up for a selection of young people to interview Liverpool FC's first-team players, she knew exactly who to choose.

Three brilliant pupils were hand-picked for this incredible experience. Their first gathering took place at a creative film studio in Liverpool City Centre, where they met film creators, photographers, and set designers. The day was all about collaboration, creativity, and getting to know each other, as the young people helped shape the set and brainstormed questions for the players.

The challenge? Listening carefully to players’ answers and coming up with follow-up questions on the spot, an excellent exercise in developing social communication skills.

The journey didn’t stop there. The young people got a tour of Anfield, LFC’s iconic stadium, where they practised their questions, enjoyed some lunch, and then their time to shine arrived.

The film, titled “You Can Ask Me Anything,” features the pupils interviewing LFC players on everything from favourite superheroes to pets.

What an unforgettable experience for our pupils, and a fantastic way to build their skills while having fun.
