Pontville School Blog 121: Football Team Triumph

06 March 2020

The success of the football team at Pontville School goes from strength to strength and recently their participation in the EBD League confirms they are talented, and are on the way to becoming champions.

Here, the school’s resident bloggers share with us all the details about their games for the league.

Mark Horlick of the Liverpool County FA organised a fantastic event with a total of seven schools attending the first match-day of the season. In total Team Pontville played four matches against other schools.

Game 1: Pontville vs Cloughwood (League Game)

Team Pontville started strong and scored early on with CJ scoring a goal. Pontville passed and moved the ball well and defended with ease. Ben made numerous important saves to keep Pontville in the game and after a quick counter attack, CJ scored thanks to assistance from Jace. In the second half Cloughwood started strong and after a great passage of play scored to bring the score to 2-1 and set up a nervous finish to the game. Cloughwood pushed for the equalizer but Pontville defended well and CJ scored his third goal of the game to make it 3-1 to Pontville.

Game 2: ETS vs Pontville (Friendly)

Pontville lined up against one of the favourites to win the league, ETS. ETS started strongly and scored within the first minutes of the game after some great attacking play. At the restart, Pontville responded positively and fought back to make it 1-1 through another CJ goal. A quick counter attack left ETS on the back-foot and Pontville quickly capitalised. In the second half and after some great play ETS scored 3 quick goals to make the score 4-1. The team battled to the end and played brilliantly and were unlucky to lose the game.

Game 3: Pontville vs Clifford Holroyde (Friendly)

After the defeat to the ETS Team, Pontville started strongly and scored early on with Jace’s first goal of the day. A great show of teamwork between him and CJ led to Pontville’s first goal. Pontville kept on the pressure and created chance after chance. CJ scored four goals, Jace scored three goals, debutant George scored his first goal of the day and Nathan finished off the scoring with Pontville winning 9-0 after a convincing win where great teamwork and sportsmanship was on display.

Game 4: Penkford vs Pontville (Friendly)

A closely fought game against two good teams. Both teams started strongly and Team Pontville took an early lead through Jace. George scored an own goal to make the score 1-1 but quickly acted positively to score for Pontville for them to take the lead at 2-1. After a brilliant corner from Lewis, George headed home his second goal of the game. Penkford were awarded a penalty and after 2 brilliant saves from Ben in goal, Penkford scored to make the score 3-2. Team Pontville quickly attacked to make the score 4-2 and finish the day with 3 wins from 4 games.

Overall, an amazing day from Team Pontville who finished the day as league leaders. Well done to all.
