Mission flower power complete
Adventurers from Oversands School recently visited Brockhole, Windemere, as part of their Learning Outside the Classroom programme to encourage development and creativity and promote mental and physical health.
The pupils spent the day learning about the work that the team at the National Park does in protecting, developing and re-planting woodlands. The pupils then had the opportunity to develop the meadow orchard by planting new trees. Their guide, Sarah, talked them through the process of planting new trees and plants and explained why it is important that it is done correctly.
The pupils worked together as a team to plant over 100 wildflowers, with the aim to help attract the bees and improve pollination within the orchard. Sarah also provided insight into the importance of introducing new plants and how this helps ecosystems thrive.
To round off their day, they took advantage of the adventure playground, where they played really well, laughing, swinging, sliding, running around and having fun.
One pupil commented, 'This is one of the happiest school days I have had in a long time.'
What a fantastic opportunity for everyone involved. Well done, everyone!
