A Day at South Lakes Porsche
Pupils from the Motor Vehicle Studies at Oversands School recently had the unique opportunity to step into the world of luxury cars at the ultra-modern South Lakes Porsche Centre. The experience, aimed at enhancing pupils’ understanding of modern cars, turned out to be an unforgettable journey.
Porsche, synonymous with sophistication and performance, generously rolled out the red carpet for the eager pupils, providing them with an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the meticulous processes involved in maintaining and showcasing their fleet. From witnessing the intricacies of valeting to observing the precision involved in servicing and even getting a first-hand experience of sitting behind the wheel, the pupils were immersed in the world of craftsmanship.
What set this visit apart was the integration of learning with practical experiences. The dedicated staff at Porsche went beyond showcasing the glamorous side of their business by incorporating mathematical concepts. This unique approach aimed to illustrate the connection between mathematical skills and the intricate processes of driving some of the most beautiful cars ever made. It's an innovative way of demonstrating how classroom learning extends far beyond textbooks and directly applies to real-world scenarios.
The success of the visit is highlighted by the enthusiasm and positive feedback from the pupils, who revelled in the opportunity. In a remarkable show of appreciation, the Porsche Team extended a warm invitation for the pupils to return, expressing a desire to host even more of Oversands School's young people in the future.
Paul Wilkinson, Careers Lead, emphasised the significance of the opportunity, highlighting:
"I am keen to increase the experiences that our young people have and to introduce them to as many employers as possible, giving them a real sense of what the world of work is like and what you need to do to make a successful career."
