We are delighted to announce the new name for Witherslack Hall School. We have made the decision to change the name to reflect the significant recent advancements that have taken place and the exciting future that is anticipated for both pupils and staff.
Therefore, the new academic year will see pupils welcomed to Oversands School. The new name is a result of an extensive consultation process with both staff and pupils.
Jude Jones, Commercial Director for Witherslack Group, further explained the decision to make the change: “As a service, Special Educational Needs has changed markedly over recent years. The perception that Special Educational Needs schools were for the ‘bad lads’ has long since gone, and there is now a far greater appreciation of the complex needs which affect the young people today.”
She added: “We are delighted to be able to make this exciting announcement and be part of continuing the significant development of the school and how it supports and enables young people to thrive and succeed.”
Head Teacher, Robin Adams, echoed Mrs Jones in saying: “The future is very exciting for Oversands School. Our current projects include creating the Primary provision, a separate post-16 residential unit and a new Art & Design classroom, in addition to a new on-site therapy team and increasing our ability to accommodate girls as well as boys. All this means that the school will be better equipped than ever to meet the needs of the increasing number of young people placed at the school.”
Oversands School, which was classed as Good by Ofsted in its latest inspection, reopens for the new academic term in early September and will welcome both returning and new pupils in their new look uniforms, ready for another successful year of academic development and personal success.
