In the lead up to Christmas, young people from The Birches Children’s Home have been opening their chocolate filled advent calendars as well as the Young Minds Wellbeing Advent Calendar. Young Minds is a charity that makes sure all young people get the best possible mental health support and have the resilience to overcome life’s challenges.
The run up to Christmas is a fun and exciting time, but for some, it can be a very difficult time and leaves them feeling anxious, lonely or stressed. The Wellbeing Advent calendar aims to help young people throughout December to do an activity that will boost their wellbeing. The activities will also provide opportunities for young people to learn activities and exercises that will help them look after their mental health.
On day one, staff and young people wrote a compliment to the person sat on their left on a gold star and after sharing what they wrote, the stars were placed on their Christmas tree.
Some of the comments shared were:
I like how thoughtful you are.
Kind, caring and loving in every way.
I love how chatty you are – lovely to talk to.
Looks pretty when she smiles.
I like the way we both know what we are thinking without talking. This makes me smile.
Well done everyone.
