May day magic
Lavender Lodge School’s Girls Club got creative, making flower crowns while learning about May Day, a celebration with origins that date back two thousand years.
The day falls between the spring and summer solstice, and the first Monday in May only became a bank holiday in 1978. Through discussions, they explored the day’s historical and cultural importance and discovered the traditions associated with the celebration.
Working together, they shared ideas and helped one another perfect their creations, using different craft materials, resulting in some fantastic pieces.
Lorraine Titchener, Head Teacher, commented:
"Girls Club was developed at Lavender Lodge school as girls are in the minority here. Boys are invited too and can attend if they want to."
How unique are their creations?
