Exploring 140 metres underground
Limes Class from Hall Cliffe School visited the National Coal Mining Museum as part of their independence studies to experience the fascinating world of coal mining.
During the trip, they explored the mine by travelling 140 metres underground with guide and ex-miner Joe. The pupils were taken back in time and were given a glimpse of the conditions miners worked in, dating back 180 years.
Joe, commented how well behaved the pupils had been and congratulated staff on bringing such a nice, polite group of pupils.
One pupil commented:
"I really loved it when I could take home a piece of coal, as a souvenir."
Pupils and staff enjoyed the wonderful experience and it's one they certainly won’t forget.
