Navigating the road to a stronger relationship with Roadchef
Key Stage 4 pupils from Avon Park School recently enjoyed a trip to a Roadchef site to get a glimpse of what goes on behind the scenes of Britain’s leading roadside service area operators.
The visit is part of the Futures Programme, providing pupils with meaningful encounters with employers and to prepare them for their transitions to post-16 opportunities and adulthood. In the weeks leading up the visit, Roadchef facilitated Future Ambassador Sessions, providing young people with valuable insights into the workplace, including information about pathways, roles, and the preparation required for roles.
Throughout the sessions, pupils developed skills such as teamwork, leadership, and customer service support, all required in the world of work. They also got the opportunity to learn about coffee operations in collaboration with Costa and heard from individual employees, who shared their progression journeys, from when they started to their current roles. Additionally, pupils learned about the opportunities Road Chef offers, including apprenticeships and employment.
During the site visit, pupils also explored non-customer facing roles that contribute to the functioning of Roadchef. The feedback received from the pupils was fantastic, with one young person appreciating how quickly the team worked together, another realising that there is more to jobs than meets the eye, and others mentioning the VIP treatment they received from employees.
As a result of Futures, Roadchef kindly committed to working with Avon Park as part of their Social Corporate Responsibility (SCR), creating a new, outdoor reading and learning environment. This new area is designed to spark pupil imagination, encouraging them to discover moments of awe and wonder in the gardens.
This rewarding and productive partnership, has not only culminated in an outstanding addition to the school’s resources, but the aspiration of pupils looking to join the world of work.
