Masterchef to mock interviews!
Young people from Fernpark Children's Home enjoyed a variety of activities, from taking on the cookery challenge to mock interviews.
Recently, three young people set themselves a culinary challenge based on 'Masterchef,' a competitive cooking reality show, to see who could impress by creating the best show-stopping dishes.
As part of their challenge, they agreed they would each produce a course, either a starter, main or dessert. They started by completing research and then went ahead to plan their chosen menu and shopping for ingredients in readiness for the day.
The big day arrived, and the young people rolled up their sleeves to create dishes that even Gregg Wallace and John Torode would be impressed by. Getting stuck in, they carefully prepared their chosen dishes ready to present to the panel of judges, made up of staff, who had the really tough decision to crown the winner of the inaugural completion.
As always, there has to be a winner, and on this occasion, it was the young person who created the main course consisting of chicken and mozzarella wrapped in bacon with a sticky homemade barbecue sauce, new potatoes and crunchy green beans - yummy!
Judge, also known as Team Leader, Alex Stoker, commented:
"It was a really hard decision as all three dishes were truly delicious and they a had all done an amazing job. I am very proud of what achieved."
The winning candidate commented:
"I had a really good time and if was really good fun cooking the main course."
Careers Day success
Staff recently held a Careers Day, where the young people took part in mock interviews in preparation for the world of work.
During the day, they were provided with a variety of job roles which they could apply for, including car technician, food & beverage manager, grounds manager and maintenance manager.
In preparation for the interview, they had to write a short statement with details on why they thought they should be chosen for the roles, followed by an interview by the Home Managers, Liam and Reg.
It was an insightful experience, providing the young people with an understanding of the process of applying for jobs.
Great work.
