The Witherslack Group are constantly looking to provide the very best opportunities for the pupils in their care and in addition to National Curriculum and GCSE’s, the job-related skills offered by the Group’s secondary schools are seen of high importance. In order to develop this provision a new vocational learning centre will open in September in Skelmersdale, Lancashire. The centre will be managed by Cumberland School near Preston and facilitate opportunities for other Witherslack schools.
This setting will provide accredited courses in a variety of skills areas including Motor Vehicle Engineering & Maintenance, Construction and Plastering, Landscaping and Horticulture. Courses will be accredited via City and Guilds and range in levels to suit the individual pupils’ aptitudes. The centre will also develop pupil’s functional skills in the specific trade areas, as well as developing their life and independent skills. Further courses will be continually developed to meet the needs and preferences of our young people, thus enabling individual learning pathways. Students wishing to select courses which the Centre does not offer will still be able to access qualifications provided by other colleges.
