School of rock

12 July 2024

Pupils and the team at Ashbrooke School welcomed School of Noise for an engaging workshop, where they explored the captivating worlds of music and the science of sound.

The day began with an insightful session covering particle theory, pitch, frequency, and volume. They also experimented with various scientific instruments and conducted their own investigations. One of the highlights was the theremin, an intriguing, space-age musical instrument that generates music using electromagnetic fields without physical contact by the performer.

Teacher Adam Petrie commented:

"The boys absolutely loved exploring sound in different ways and finding out that WWII would not have been won without it. Did you know that Morse Code uses sound!”

Pupil Tyler expressed his excitement:

"I loved the beeping machine (the Morse Code machine) because I got to spell my name using sounds."

Overall, the visit from School of Noise was music to everyone’s ears.
