Egg-citing arrivals

02 April 2024

In time for Easter, pupils from Ashbrooke School welcomed some new friends thanks to Incredible Eggs, a local poultry farm, that has introduced a conservation to the classroom programme.

The school were given five duck eggs, and before their hatching, pupils spent time learning about the process, including the stages of development and the care required for the ducklings once they arrived. The pupils monitored the eggs with keen eyes for signs of the impending hatchlings.

In the days leading up to  their arrival, brainstorming sessions took place to decide their names, with Mr Quackington being one of the favourites. The real work began on their arrival as pupils confidently embraced their roles as caregivers. Taking turns, they ensured the ducks were well-fed, hydrated, and comfortable in their new environment. What had initially been a classroom project soon became the highlight of the pupils' day, as they looked forward to their designated times to interact with and care for their feathered friends.

One pupil commented: "The ducks are so happy to be at Ashbrooke and we love taking care of them. I love Lisa the duck, she is so fluffy."

The team at Ashbrooke School look forward to seeing the development of the ducklings over the next few weeks.

What an egg-citing opportunity for everyone involved! Well done.
