Abbeywood School Official Opening Ceremony

28 November 2019

This week, pupils and staff from Abbeywood School celebrated the school’s official opening with parents, carers and professionals.

As guests arrived they were treated to an assortment of canapes created by pupils studying hospitality, who also helped to serve the appetizers that received a great deal of admiration.

Head Teacher, Sarah Douglas then welcomed the guests to the ceremony where she talked about the school’s aim of providing an environment in which pupils can trust, engage, build resilience and enjoy the Abbeywood learning experience.

Sarah’s speech was followed by Phil Jones, CEO of the Witherslack Group who shared his pride in seeing how the school has developed so much already since opening earlier this year.  He also talked about how as a Group we are continuing to go from strength to strength and the collective effort of everyone in achieving life changing outcomes for our young people.

Following the speeches Sarah and Phil sealed a time capsule, which included  notes written by pupils to their future selves and  pebbles with their names and the date they started at the school written on them. Filled to the brim, the capsule was then taken to a green area and buried into the grounds with the help of pupil Miles.

Sarah proudly commented:

"I am delighted that this event was marked by the attendance of so many members of our school community.  It has been a privilege to reflect on the journey of the school so far.  We are looking forward to continuing to embed the work of Abbeywood so that we can build trust and resilience as individuals, whilst engaging in new opportunities and enjoying our learning as we continue to grow."

Overall it was a fantastic event that was enjoyed by all.
