Exploring the future
National Manufacturing Day 2023 saw Year 11 pupils from Abbeywood School immerse themselves in a day of innovation and exploration at the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre, Factory 2050. The pupils not only demonstrated exceptional behaviour but were also engaged with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) activities.
The event provided an invaluable opportunity for the aspiring inventors to witness the cutting-edge advancements in manufacturing and technology, gaining firsthand insights into how these developments shape the world around them. The activities ranged from exploring nuclear power and virtual welding to experiencing the thrill of F1 Racing. The pupils were exposed to a diverse range of industries, including Boeing, Siemens Disassembly, and the utilisation of a robotic arm.
Perhaps one of the most promising aspects of the day was the opportunity for apprenticeship offers with AMRC. This not only exposed the pupils to potential career paths but also highlighted the importance of bridging the gap between education and industry.
The hands-on activities and exposure to industry leaders provided a unique and inspiring experience that will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact on pupils, motivating them to pursue careers in STEM fields and contribute to the future of manufacturing. National Manufacturing Day 2023 served not only as an educational event but also as a catalyst for the next generation of innovators and engineers.
