Darton Class celebrate book award
Darton Class from Abbeywood School are the very proud winners of the UKLA Our Class Loves This Book Award 2023 in the secondary category.
The budding bookworms and Class Teacher, Emily Fairbrother, submitted their impressive portfolio after studying the book, ‘Fourteen Wolves’ by Catherine Barr in great detail, immersing in a rewilding project at school, mirroring the storyline of the gripping novel.
Construction Teacher Emma Rushton was also on hand to design and construct ‘The Trees Take Root Installation,’ which symbolises potential, growth, beauty challenge, resilience and teamwork. Their work has also helped rewild the local area by providing a welcoming habitat for insects.
The book has also led to rich writing from pupils, who creatively produced information leaflets, new articles and poems.
As award winnners, Head Teacher Sarah Douglas and Emily presented the outcomes of their work on Saturday 24 June at the UKLA International Conference in Exeter before receiving their award.
