Owen’s Story

“Owen now enjoys spending quality time with his very proud mum.”

Owen’s Story

Owen enjoyed nothing more than to sit at home playing video games all day, every day. Refusing to attend school and with no friends to count as his own he was a lost boy with no ambition and goals. This was all too much for his mum who was heartbroken with what she was witnessing and recognised that he needed a new start in an environment where he would be challenged to grow and develop

Support

Owen himself describes arriving at Lakeland House Children’s Home as a breakthrough moment. From the moment he entered the home he began interacting with staff and peers with ease and after understanding the boundaries and expectations he quickly settled into his new home, where he began to make positive changes. He also started to attend school with the minimum of fuss, resulting in him making great progress and embracing opportunities that he would not have considered previously

Achievement

The chance to start over doesn’t happen often but Owen is a shining example of how, with the right attitude and support, anything is possible. The fairly reclusive boy who refused to attend school and shied away from social interactions is now a well-rounded sixteen year old who enjoys spending quality time with his very proud mum
